Dignity DIARY
April 2024 Issue #58
Dear Friend of Goonj,
In this issue of Dignity Diaries, we highlight our Education initiative ‘School to School’ which ensures equal access to education and learning resources for all students, by bridging the urban-rural gap. The month of May is an exciting time for many children as they step into a new academic year. It is also a time when urban children can be encouraged to do their bit.
After the successful Chaupal in Delhi celebrating Goonj's 25th anniversary, we are now preparing to commemorate this special occasion at our annual Chaupals in different cities. We are filled with excitement and gratitude to invite you to the next gathering in Dehradun on 26th May, 2024.
28th of May is observed globally as 'Menstrual Hygiene Day'. At Goonj, we recognise the critical role that menstrual health and hygiene play in ensuring the dignity and well-being of all the menstruators. Throughout May, we will highlight our efforts to promote menstrual health and advocate for greater access to menstrual products.
Warm regards,
Anshu Gupta

Over the years, Goonj has partnered with some of India's top urban schools through the School to School Initiative (S2S) and engage them in a year-long programs which begin with awareness sessions. We share stories of talent from rural India, highlighting the material resource gap.
The essence of our interactions extend beyond charity; it centres on empathy—the capacity to understand and share the feelings of others, to empathise with their joys and sorrows, their dreams and aspirations, instilling volunteerism and encouraging mindful giving practices.
As the journey progresses, Goonj's focus evolves, beyond material contributions, the aim is also to develop a deeper understanding of rural India's nuances. Periodical campaigns provide students with a platform to express their compassion and civic responsibility.
One notable campaign is 'Khushiyon ka Recycle', which promotes the reuse of school materials such as stationery, books/notebooks, uniforms, lunch boxes, water bottles, and school bags. Urban collection drives held as part of this campaign encourage intergenerational collaboration, where the wisdom and experience of elders meet with the boundless energy and enthusiasm of children.

Collection Drive at Legend Apartments, Gurgaon
On April 6th, 2024, the Legend Apartments in Sector 57, Gurgaon, buzzed with the spirit of generosity and compassion. A volunteer from Goonj's Gurgaon chapter organised a collection drive as part of the Khushiyon Ka Recycle campaign, bringing out an enthusiastic response from the community, particularly the young residents of the society who played a key role in the event's success. They not only actively participated in collecting items but also showcased their creativity by crafting vibrant posters to promote the drive.
Their involvement extended beyond participation. They had also set up a lemonade stand during the event, showcasing their entrepreneurial skills to raise funds for holistic rural development.
Paving the Way for an Equitable World
Goonj's dedicated volunteers put in countless hours of effort to ensure the smooth organisation of a collection camp. From coordinating with the residents to meticulously planning every aspect of the
drive, their commitment and hard work plays a key role in its success. This collection drive in Gurgaon
is just one example of the countless initiatives undertaken by Goonj's nationwide community of Do-Gooders. From urban centres to remote villages, this network of compassionate individuals are working tirelessly to create an equitable world for all.
